Two Modes in One App

SraBuddy is really two apps in one.

In the "Buoy Placement" mode it works in conjunction with the SRA app to accurately place the buoys/marks for a particular course. In the "Waypoint Navigation" mode it has nothing to do with SRA and provides a navigator to guide you around a predefined course/route. You can switch between these two modes by using the "Mode" switch on the "Config" tab.

Buoy Placement

SraBuddy is the companion app to SailRaceAdmin. It primarily provides real time information on your distance and heading relative to the committee boat. Additioanlly it can provide relative distance and heading to make the setting of offset marks accurate and most importantnly consistent from race to race.

In the video we overview the installtion and use of the app. The principal goal was to make the process very simple and robust. There really is not any learning curve, which is the whole point, nor is there any need ever to resync with SRA should the wind change direction.

Once you have watched the short video, then proceed to review the example on the next tab, which will walk through the use of the app in setting up a typical course.

Waypoint Navigation

As of release 0.1.7+8 the app now contains a waypoint navigator. You can enter a number of waypoints defined by latitude + longitude and then create a route or a path from those waypoints. On the "Waypoints" tab is now displayed the distance and heading to the first waypoint. On reaching that waypoint tab the "Next" button and the distance and heading to the next waypoint is displayed. You continue in this manner until the route is completed.

Magnetic Declination

Under the "Config Tab" in both modes of operation you will find Magnetic Declination and dropdown which goes in increments of 2 degrees from +20 to -20. If you leave this as the default zero then all headings are with respect to true north. If you want all readings to be with respect to magnetic north then adjust this setting to be appropriate for your location.
